hi there,
I keep getting conflicting postal quotes from sellers and I would like to know once and for all what a doll weighs wearing clothing and shoes and then if someone could weigh the doll in a reasonable sized packing box for me.

So 1. Clothed doll on her own

2. Clothed doll in a box

That would be so great. I know that boxes are always different weights but surely a doll in a box does not weigh 6 lbs!!

I've shipped out a lot of dolls in the last two months. A new Marisol with her box inside another box (fitted, the box AG ships in if you order just one doll), no packing peanuts, weight 4.5 pounds. If you put that box in a larger box with packing peanuts or bubble wrap, she comes in around 5.5 pounds. One doll wrapped in plastic with packing materials weighs 5 pounds. Two dolls wrapped in plastic with packing materials weights 6.5 pounds.
All this varies with the quality of the box (I usually use Priority boxes from the PO) and the type of packing mateirals, of course, but I've found these weights are pretty typical.

I weighed myself with the stuff then without anything, and subtracted to get this so it may be slightly off.

Doll Dressed inside box (jacket, shirt, pants, socks, boots) - 4 lbs
Clothed doll alone 2.5 lbs
Naked doll in box - 3 lbs
Naked doll - 2 lbs

My doll is wearing a heavy outfit and heavy boots, so obvioulsy one like Josefina's with light mocs and things would be less.

Juliette,

Ii's almost midnight here. Kit & dd are asleep & her box is in dd's closet. I'll gladly check for you in the a.m. if you haven't gotten an answer by then.

I'm thinking 6lbs. doesn't sound far off, really. The doll is a nice weight & she is packaged in a box that is then packed in a shipping box. If you are getting one without the original AG box, it would naturally weigh slightly less. I know sellers will sometimes say the weight is a bit more so they won't lose much if the postal scales differ. Many people just round up the weight too.

Sorry it is so hard & frustrating to get things shipped to Australia! Better start saving so you can really buy the store in LA. That's one way to avois shipping hassles.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">LOL yeah bring an empty suitcase! I did that on a trip once, actually brought a HUGE suitcase with just my underwear in it so that I could fill it up with things to take back.

Of course if you do that, I'd love to see the look on the baggage screener's face when he x-rays your bag and sees 4 or 5 little AG heads staring back at him though, ROFL

Yep - that's what I plan to do. When we were little my mother did the same thing - had a present suitcase and all our X-mas pressies were neatly packed inside. Well, when we got to Sydney, guess which bag never showed up? Yep - the present bag. We were devastated because we hadn't gotten to even play with any of those toys and they were gone forever!

It has always left a mark and now I worry about putting everything valuable in the one bag!

I've sent a lot of dolls to the doll hospital nude and packed with peanuts and they all came to about 3.5 to 3.75 lbs. UPS charges me the 4 lb weight. Oh- I did exchange Josefina fully dressed and with her book and she was 4 lbs. They were all weighed already packaged in their boxes.
